The ninth-largest city in the US, Dallas is a cosmopolitan place with world-class architecture, a booming arts district, and a diverse dining scene. But there's also an old- fashioned sense of community that makes the city welcoming to it many diverse elements.
Because of its sheer size, Dallas has one of the country's biggest gay populations. The Oak Lawn neighborhood around Cedar Springs Road and Oak Lawn Avenue has the area's largest cluster of gay bars, stores and restaurants.

Getting here
Run by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (Dart.org), bus 39 runs from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to West End Station, where Blue and Red Rail Lines connect to Union Station in downtown Dallas. Single fare rides are $1.50. Bus number 539 connects to Mockingbird Station.

Gay media
Dallas Voice (Dallasvoice.com) is the gay community newspaper. Oaklawn TV(Oaklawn.tv) broadcasts videos of gay Dallas.
The Dallas Tavern Guild has an always up-to-date and helpful website.

Best Western (915 West Dallas St; 800-230-4134) budget choice close to the scene.

Club Elm & Pearl (2204 Elm St) young hip-hop crowd, exotic dancers, drag and variety shows.
Havana (4006 Cedar Springs Rd) Latin and Afro-Caribbean bar with food, drag shows, late-night crowd.
Hidden Door (5025 Bowser) 'old school' bar with deep community ties, laid-back feel, popular patio.
Hideaway (4144 Buena Vista) piano-bar heaven, candlelit tables, back patio, mature crowd.
Illusions (4100 Maple Av) pool tournaments, karaoke, videos, Friday 'Lovely Ladies' drag show.
Joe's (4125 Maple Av), an old-time neighborhood tavern aka 'the Brick,' drag, dancers, 18+ nights, mostly African-American crowd.
Jr's (3923 Cedar Springs Rd) mostly young guys, videos, quality sound, popular deck, Sunday shows.
Kaliente (4350 Maple Av) Latin dance club with drag, comedy shows, hot chico/chica contests.
