Lyon is characterized by the intelligence and seriousness often associated with the second born. It's approximately two hours by TGV (the amazing trains which travel at
tres grande vitesse) from Paris. Most of Lyon's gay scene is found in Vieux Lyon, on the presqu'isle
bounded by Le Rhone and La Saone, and almost all gay points of interest are within an easy ten-minute walk of each other.
Le Bizz (34 Cours de Verdun) is a small, casual mixed neighborhood bar for men and women.
Le Cap Opera (2, place Louis Pradel), just behind Lyon's opera house, swings seven days a week, most days from 11am (except Sunday 4pm and Monday 2pm) until 3am. They fill with young and sophisticated types beginning at l'heure de cocktail and into the night with theme parties, or for quick and tasty munchies on their sidewalk terrace.
Le Domaine (9 rue du Jardin des Plantes) at the heart of the Lyon peninsula will charm any night of the week, with it's comfortable decor and south facing terrace, dance floor, relaxed vibe, tapas and acoustic live music performances.
L'Etoile Opera, (26, rue de l'Arbre Sec) cocktail bar and restaurant serves a mixed clientele a delicious light lunch.
The busy Le Forum Bar (15, rue des Quatres Chapeaux) is Lyon's classic men's bar with relaxed guys who love to converse.
Le Mix (3, rue Terme) is lively with new management, a young crowd, good music, and a decent crowd, especially on Saturdays.
La Ruche (22, rue Gentil) is popular with fun crowd and international ambience.
Station B (21 place Gabriel Rambaud), the area's main men's bear bar, is roomy beneath arched stone ceilings, with DJs playing dance music.
Le Bloc (67 rue des Rancy) gleaming metal renovations, podium vibrator, bridges, hoists, lift cage and other high tech gadgets have transformed the old Fridge nightclub. They have performances, top DJs and an enclosed passage leads to a new restaurant next door.
La Cour des Grands (60, montee de Choulans) is a mixed crowd dance club in a converted chateau perched high above the city with commanding views and protected inner gardens. Open weekends in winter, throughout the week
A mixed crowd also goes to Le DV1 (22, rue Royale) dance club in Old Lyon, whose DJs take their techno music seriously.
F&G (22 rue Joseph Serlin) is a Wednesday through Saturday women's dance club, open until 5am.
Le Marais (14 rue Thomassin ) has returned as the area's high-powered women's dance club favorite.
Pinks Club (38, rue de l'Arbre Sec) is an after-hours dance club.
Le United Cafe (Impasse de la Pecherie), aka
L'UC, is the club in town for the young, cool crowd until 5am seven nights a week. There's a "Black-Out Zone" party every Sunday.
bk69 (1, rue de Thou) a bondage, fetish and s&m wet dream for a varied male membership who like to push the limits of their sexual adventures. Join them online if you can't get here soon enough.
La Jungle (1, rue de Thou) is a club for sexual libertines of all genders.
MCRA (2, cours d'Herbouville) is Lyon's hard sex membership club bar. ECMC cards are good, or join at the door. They have a secured front entrance and full Friday and Saturday night schedules of bondage, fetish, water-sports, dress code leather and rubber uniform nights.
Le Premier Sous-Sol (7, rue Puits Gaillot) sex club in quartier des Terreau has two levels of fun and fantasy, videos, back-room, mazes and private cabins, seven days a week until 5am Monday to Thursday and until 8am on weekends.
SMAC 69 (30 rue Burdeau) fetish and bondage association has a bar, and fisting sessions among their many activities, and on Sunday afternoons there's a get-down-to-business Gay Tea Fuck from 4pm.
Le Trou (6, rue Romarin) is open seven days a week 2pm to 3am (until 6am on Fridays and Saturdays) with a full agenda of fetish/leather, fisting, naked, jack-off, cockring, bear, black out and piss parties, for men only.

Le Double side (8, rue Constantine), is open daily noon to 3am -until 5am Friday/Saturday.
Le Mandala (9, rue Boissac) is a big establishment with bar, work-out area, and under-25 Thursday discount nights.
L'Oasis Club (2, rue Coustou), and
Le Sauna Bellecour (4, rue Simon Maupin) are two other hot local options.
Opening late in 2009, Sun City (3, rue Ste Marie des Terreaux) is a sibling club to the big stylish sauna in the Marais gay district of Paris.
Like hot sweaty contact between men on the sportsfield? Les RebeLyons is the local gay rugby team to watch out for.
DOGklub (12, rue du Romarin) is a local outlet for DVD retail and rentals, fetish gadgets, lubes, toys, etcetera.
Major Videostore (2 place des Capucins) has erotic video sales and rentals, big screen cinema, cabins with a selection of 2500 titles, live sex shows (see photos online), on-site massage on Tuesdays from 6 to 10pm. They have visting porn stars, a hot staff, and you can even sign up here to star in porn films yourself.
Les Feuillants (5, rue des Feuillants) came highly recommended and I was happy to have had the occasion to dine there. The food was fantastic. The restaurant is open at midday and at dinner-time.
Logo Cafe (1 place Croix Paquet) serves French breakfast on weekdays from 7:30am (with special ones each Saturday from 9am), lunch from noon, and their aperitif lounge is open until 8:30.
Le Jean Moulin (22 rue Gentil) is another gay-favored local bistro with late service hours until midnight.

At the charming
Hotel Le patio des Terreaux (9, rue Sainte Catherine; 04-7828-1101), hosts
Jean-Francois and Jean-Christophe have renovated their historic building where silk ateliers were housed when Lyon was a world leader in silk production. Now their comfortable rooms come with private bath, and some of the sexiest TV you'll find anywhere, after 1am.
