Thanks to the loyal reader who sent Dawn a clip about Nigerian Femi Emmanuel's first book, Touching the Heart through Unforgettable Text Messages. Supposedly catering to a demand from tongue-tied (finger-tied?) lovers unable to find exactly the right words to express themselves, Emmanuel offers up some sure-to-be-noticed text message options.
How about, "I swear, I will make sure I give you HIV... H is for Happiness and joy forever with an I: Incomparable love that will never V: Vanish until death do us part. I love you." What would-be lover could not take notice? Or maybe, "My love for you is like diarrhea, it flows like a river." Or, if you suspect your object's affection would be won by comparison to a disease-carrying insect try, "U R the only mosquito in my net."
Odd that a country that has raised email scamming to poetic art form, would find itself so seemingly tone deaf regarding romantic text messaging.
